Whether of a linguistic, ethnic, political, social, cultural or sexual nature, the claims of minorities enjoy a privileged medium in theatre. Sur tous les continents, dans les contextes les plus variés, le théâtre contemporain est riche d’expériences qui cherchent à donner une visibilité à des communautés humaines que l’on perçoit (ou qui se perçoivent) comme minoritaires. Qu’elle soit de nature linguistique, ethnique, politique, sociale, culturelle ou sexuelle, la revendication minoritaire trouve dans les arts de la scène un medium privilégié. Peut-être parce qu’il a lui-même à voir avec les notions de centre et de périphérie, de conformisme et de marginalité, de domination et d’inféodation, notions qu’il ne cesse d’interroger ou de faire jouer, le théâtre sait se mettre à l’écoute du malaise identitaire, pour lui donner une résonance universelle.
